The Colorado State Rams football program represents Colorado State University in college football at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) level. The team competes in the Mountain West Conference. The Rams have played their home games at Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado, since 2017. The Rams all-time record is 544–533–47 (.506 winning percentage) as of the 2022 season. The Rams began playing football in 1893, and have had a number of successful seasons over the years. They won their first conference championship in 1933, and have won a total of six conference championships. The Rams also won the Potato Bowl in 1967 and 1968. The Rams have had a number of notable players over the years, including John Wolford, Jim Kiick, and Karl Mecklenburg. Wolford was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference quarterback. Kiick was a two-time All-American running back who played for the Miami Dolphins in the NFL. Mecklenburg was a two-time All-American linebacker who played for the Denver Broncos in the NFL. The Rams have had a number of successful coaches over the years, including Sonny Lubick, Steve Fairchild, and Mike Bobo. Lubick led the Rams to six conference championships and a bowl game appearance in 1999. Fairchild led the Rams to a bowl game appearance in 2013. Bobo led the Rams to a bowl game appearance in 2017.
